Here’s a 3D tour of the HDR photography exhibit that the f8 Consortium did in my Clearwater, FL art gallery. You can see most of the pieces that were on display. Click here to browse the virtual gallery.

High dynamic range imaging (HDR for short) is a photographic technique that has become all the rage lately. The f8 Consortium, a group of local Tampa and Clearwater photographers (including myself) is opening an exhibit this Saturday, April 24, called “New Visions” (more details). Here is one of the pieces I will be showing, “Wholesale Sponges,” taken at the nearby Tarpon Springs sponge docks:

The “New Visions” exhibit features amazing shots and everyone should check it out!
Alice Alexander is an interior designers who participated in “The Ideas of March,” a showcase of art and interior design hosted in my art gallery in Clearwater, FL. Here she is in front of her display, giving an interview on her work:
I’ll be posting more interviews with other designers soon.
As an ASID Industry Partner, I’ve had the pleasure of working with some of Florida’s top interior designers. Collaborating with these designers has given me an new appreciation for their craft. It’s impressive to see how much thought and planning goes into designing a space and how much skill it takes to do right. More than just picking the curtains and carpet, an interior designer has to have a vision for creating a space that functions for the people in it and also please them aesthetically. Then they have to have practical, real-world know-how to see these visions made into a reality.
With the help of my wife Jerri, we’ve organized “Ideas of March,” an event showcasing ten of the top local ASID interior designers and their use of my artwork in their designs. The exhibit runs until April 10, 2010 and is open to the public. Read more about the Ideas of March here. The St. Petersburg Times also mentioned it in their Home & Garden section as “Inside designers’ minds.”
This has been a busy week! I completed a series of custom pieces for the Jewels of the Bay, a show house by ASID interior designers that benefits the Boys and Girls Club of Sarasota and Manatee counties. You can see it in this photo from the newspaper article “Designs showcase talent for tours” in the Herald Tribune of Sarasota:

If you’re in St. Petersburg, FL this weekend, head by Temple Beth-el’s 37th Annual Art Festival and check out the art on display, including several pieces of my own. This is my first year in Temple Beth-el and I am also the first artist they’ve accepted that works in digital arts and the first that produces originals on giclée.
And like I said yesterday, the TV show Daytime is running a piece on me and my artwork that’s running on Thursday! I’ll post more about each of these events once I have another spare minute!
For the second year in a row, I will be participating in 85@85 at the miArte Gallery in Coral Gables, FL. The event showcases 85 contemporary artists with works ranging from abstract to realism, photography to sculpture and everything in between. The gallery owners invited me back to show two of my new pieces, "Atlantis" and "Cylinder City". (Last year, it was "New Glory" and "Turmoil", the latter of which sold on the spot.)
The diversity of art in 85@85 is astounding and I'm inspired by the new ideas artists come up with. Their artwork reflects so many different personalities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. My style of abstract art is unique among them, which makes it interesting to see my pieces surrounded by oil paintings, drawings, watercolors and photographs. I must admit they all look good together.
Meeting the other artists on opening night, it seems to me that despite their varied backgrounds and artistic styles, they share some traits in common: they are caring and compassionate people with a strong desire to express themselves and reach out to others. Seeing all of these people united in one place is quite an experience.
If you're in the area, I invite you to come by 85@85 on Friday, December 5th from 7:00-10:00 PM. The miArte Gallery is located at 85 Merrick Way, Coral Gables, FL. Admission is free.
